“Lady and Lapdog”

How do you translate that?

FROM PAGE TO STAGE

a Geodramatic approach

With

NORMAN TAYLOR and AMY RUSSELL

“Lady and Lapdog”, Chekov’s short story, is imbued with everyday details, which a stage adaptation might generalize.

A geodramatic approach to the space/time of theatre focuses on everyday experience: rhythms, gestures, habits, snatches of conversation, processes of change, and multiple points of view.

During our 2-week workshop in Falun, Sweden a winter festival of actor creation. We will make collaborative forays onto the unmarked page of a new staging, traveling from the intensity of our cozy studio onto freshly fallen snow, across the frozen lake, and then back around the fires of imagination.

As a result of this process: We will develop our own versions of this classic tale, from which each person will take away a new approach to translating page to stage.

- Drawing on physical theatre devising methods (Lecoq, Decroux, Viewpoints)
