What is under the surface? This is an interactive one-woman show about the secrets we keep from ourselves and others in order to fit into society. We take an honest look at our own identity and how we’re not willing to look under the surface if it's inconvenient. How we make life choices and judgements based on the superficial. It’s a playful perspective on what it means to be attached to our opinions.

Pearl the clown is a superhero who is afraid of people.
She is looking for her "super power". Actually she wants to be a Super Her-o but constantly fails to live up to the labels of being a woman, a mom, a sex object, a best friend, a housekeeper. She puts on the mantle of "what society or family thinks she should be" while her “super power” may be under the surface instead of above.

I have been fascinated by my experience of being a woman and how it doesn’t match who I’ve been told “I should be” and why didn’t I get an instruction manual for navigating the world as a girl. In a world that says we love the beautiful nice side of you, but we don’t want to know the real you underneath.

We look at concepts like "Don’t judge book by it’s cover", "Comparing my insides with your outsides" and "Me too".
What is under the surface of what we think we are entitled to? What happens when I’m threatened by other cultures?  What do I really think about myself and others?
